Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I get a Library Card?
    You will need to fill out an application for a library card. You will need a valid government issued photo ID and proof of residence. For further information see To Obtain a Library Card on our Policies & Information page.
  2. How do I renew the registration on my library card?
    Upon the expiration of your registration you will need to provide proof of residence and a valid government issued photo ID to a clerk at the circulation desk.
  3. How long can items be checked out?
    Items can be checked out for a period of two weeks.
  4. How much am I charged for overdue materials?
    Fines vary according to type of material. For fine amounts Fines, Fees and Other Charges on our Policies & Information page.
  5. How do I renew my materials?
    There are three different options for patrons for renewing checked out materials.  For further information on how to renew items out see Renewing Materials on our Policies & Information page.
  6. How do I reserve a book?
    You may place a request for books that are checked out by doing one of the following:  click on Search Catalog; search by title, author, or subject, after you locate the book, click Place Request; Place a request from one of the PAC (Patron Access Computers) located near the Circulation Desk; ask a staff member to place the request for you.
  7. What do I do if I want a book you don’t have?
    You can request a book that we do not have in our collection by filling out a request slip at the circulation desk.  We will attempt to borrow the book from other libraries through our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) program.

  9. Can I return library material at either branch?
    Yes, the Laurel Jones County Library System, Inc.  has two locations. The headquarters, Laurel Jones County Library, is located in Laurel and the branch, Ellisville Public Library, is in Ellisville. Items can be borrowed from and returned to either location interchangeably.
  10. How do I use the Public Access Computers (PAC)?
    Patrons of the library over the age of 18 with library cards in good standing are allowed 1 hour per day use of our public computers.  For more information see Computers on our Policies & Information page.
  11. Can I use computers if I live out of town?
    Yes, if you are an out of county visitor you may use our public computers for three visits without a library card.  You must have a valid government issued photo ID. For more information see Computers on our Policies & Information page.
