The Children’s Department of the Laurel-Jones County Library offers a variety of materials to encourage reading and literacy in children of all ages. A weekly theme for children’s programs connects arts and crafts to developing reading skills. The children’s department also features puzzles, toys, magazines, and coloring sheets to stimulate young children’s intellect and encourage a love for learning.
The Storytime Play Date program features themed stories followed by a related craft. This program is held every Tuesday at 10 am.
The Imagination Station program focuses on letters of the alphabet, counting and other skills. This program includes songs, activities and crafts. Preschool Prep is held every Thursday at 10 am.
Summer Reading programs are designed to maintain children’s skill and interest in reading during school break. These special events feature performers, story tellers, art, games, laughter, and lots of page turning fun for all ages. These summertime programs are usually held in the month of June.

Two (2) children’s touch screen computers are available that help teach important technical skills as well as provide educational programs to young learners in both English and Spanish. These Early Learning Stations for children were funded under the federal Library Services and Technology Act administered by the Mississippi Library Commission for the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The Easy book section features board books and picture books for children from birth to third grade.
The Juvenile Fiction book section features chapter books for children in grades two to six.
The Young Adult book section features books for children in grades 7 and up.
The children’s audiobook and video collection features interesting titles for children and young adults.

The Friends of the Jones County Public Libraries offer family friendly activities periodically. These activities are held in April, October and December. These activities can be found on the Calendar of Events for Laurel.
